Purple Haze: origin of the strain
The lineage is not reliably documented. The strain database Leafly writes that Purple Haze probably descends from Purple Thai and Haze. CannaConnection and the product page of the DNT9+ Vape name the same parents. The SHEESH product pages date the genetics to the sixties. Leafly does not name a known breeder.
According to Leafly, other strains came from this line, including Cherry Haze and Purple Panty Dropper.
Jimi Hendrix and the name Purple Haze
According to Leafly, the name became popular through the song by Jimi Hendrix from 1967. Whether the strain was named after the song or the other way around cannot be determined with certainty from the strain databases. The second part of the name, on the other hand, is clear: Haze is the family the strain belongs to. Purple fits the appearance, because Leafly describes lavender tones on the flowers.
Purple Haze: Sativa or Indica?
The information is close together. Leafly lists the strain as a Sativa, the strain database CannaConnection as sativa-dominant, and the SHEESH product page speaks of sativa-leaning. All three mean the same direction: the Sativa share predominates. According to none of these sources is it an Indica strain. What the classification says and does not say is explained in the guide Indica and Sativa.
Aroma and taste: berry, grape and floral notes
Leafly lists lavender, violet and floral notes, plus a mix of sweet and earthy with berry and sharp spice underneath. CannaConnection places aroma and taste clearly in the berry range, with herbal and grape notes at the edges.
The information on terpenes differs. Leafly mainly names myrcene, caryophyllene and limonene. The product page of the DNT9+ Vape names myrcene, terpinolene and pinene as typical of the strain, and CannaConnection emphasizes linalool. The only certainty is that myrcene is often named. What is behind these substances is explained in the guide Terpenes.
